Protera in collaboration with CEMET (Metabolomic Center), is taking part in metabolomic projects. Metabolomics is the study of non-proteinaceous, endogenous small molecules present in an organism. Representative small molecules include well-known compounds such as glucose, cholesterol, ATP and lipid signaling molecules. These molecules are the ultimate product of cellular metabolism. The Metabolome includes those molecules in a specific organism, e.g. the human metabolome. DNA is transcribed into RNA then translated to proteins, which then make small molecules.
